The Indian IT market is 60% dependent on the US market which is lagging in hiring right now. But the IT market here is diversified, as every non-tech company is setting IT development centres for bringing in sophistication by integrating AI - Aluri, Founder, Hire The Best Brains, tells Bizz Buzz

Hyderabad: The advent of AI, ML and data science has created an unavoidable technology drive for companies which, regardless of their business activity, are embracing software development to support their business automation. For instance, Bank of America (BoA) has its own software development team. Now, every company has incorporated software development teams internally or through third party. So, software development is no more exclusive to IT companies and this ongoing trend has been creating more demand for IT professionals, observe industry representatives.

As many non-tech companies have set up their own IT development centres, the slowdown in the US market has not adversely affected hiring of workforce having command over emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Data Science in Hyderabad. Skilling, upskilling and cross-skilling will be the way forward for IT product professionals to progress in their career, say human resource experts.

“The Indian IT market is partially dependent, to about 60 per cent, on the US market, which is lagging in hiring right now. It is a common phenomenon that the business slows down every four years. We are hoping that after March, there will be improvement on IT projects front. But you need to remember that the IT market here is diversified, as every company is setting up IT development centre for bringing in sophistication by integrating AI,” Founder of Hire The Best Brains, and a HR professional with 27 years of industry experience, Aluri told Bizz Buzz.

The Telangana State government has taken up major initiatives to position Hyderabad as the AI capital, and attract global companies to set up their centres here for working on AI-powered products.

“Implementation of AI technology in aerospace and energy sector is creating lot of opportunities. Other engineering sectors like medical devices, rail or automotive sectors are careful on the number of hiring. Today’s product development is a blend of hard core engineering and software or digital development. In that aspect, the pace of growth in rail sector, which is a decade behind China, will speed up further. Then there are many GCCs coming to India, setting up base in Hyderabad, so there is scope of hiring there too,” Shrikant Naik, Chief Administrative Officer, Quest Global, said.

On the education front, the State government is pushing for AI training alongside the college curriculum. Moreover, the IT workforce is also aligning their skills to cater to the demand of emerging technologies.

Naik added: “upskilling has always happened, and now, it is happening at a faster pace with the current demand for emerging technologies. Majority of Indians have always been open to learning new technologies. In addition, governments and industries are placing importance on cross-skilling and upskilling, and institutions like Nasscom are taking initiatives for skilling, which is a continuous journey. Only employees who understand it and work on it will be able to progress their career.”

“The US market has slowed down, but that is not the case in India. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science related ample jobs are available in the market. In Hyderabad, there is vast potential for self-learners, who get absorbed into the workforce faster. Here, self-learning is the key. Companies do share partial responsibility to skill their employees and there are platforms available in the company for taking up such training sessions,” said Srinivas Pindi, Vice President, Human Resources, Phenom.

We, at Phenom, hire freshers through campus recruitment and provide paid training in AI and ML for a period of three months, he added.
